fertility testing: A series of medical tests that helps to determine how likely it is that a woman can become pregnant.

genetic discrimination: Discrimination in the form of lost opportunities and benefits as a result of a genetic condition like Turner syndrome.

genetic disease: A disease that occurs as a result of missing or defective genes. Turner syndrome is a genetic disease.

growth hormones: Hormones that control the growth of an individual. In women with Turner syndrome, growth hormones are often given from a young age to help maximize height.

heredity: The passing of traits from parents to their offspring. Turner syndrome has no hereditary component (it does not run in families).

hormones: Chemical signals produced by glands in the body that act slowly, changing the internal functions and processes of the body.

hormone replacement therapy: A treatment option for women with Turner syndrome in which female hormones are given in order to help the patient develop secondary sexual characteristics.
